Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

If you have questions about the scholarship, please review the frequently asked questions (FAQs) and answers. If you need more clarification or more questions, please contact the HAAP Scholarship Committee via email at [email protected]. To be eligible for the HAAP Scholarships, you must attend a school, public or private, in one of the following school districts (Connell, Finley, Kennewick, Pasco, or Richland) and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher within the first semester/trimester of your senior year with additional specification of eligibility requirements between the two scholarships as noted below. 

Where do I apply for the scholarship?
Please go to the "Scholarships" tab on the HAAP website, where you will see a section directing you to the scholarship application. Scholarship link can also be found here. Please note that we offer two different scholarships - there's the Traditional HAAP Scholarship and the new Springboard Scholarship.

How do I know if I may be eligible for which scholarship?
To be eligible for the HAAP Scholarships, you must attend a school, public or private, in one of the following school districts (Burbank, Connell, Finley, Kennewick, Pasco, or Richland) and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher within the first semester/trimester of your senior year.

​Additionally, please note the key differences in eligibility requirements for the two scholarships offered by HAAP. 
  • Traditional HAAP Scholarship: Be of Hispanic Ethnicity with intent to enroll full-time in a two / four year / or vocation U.S. accredited institution in the fall of the upcoming academic year. 
  • Springboard Scholarship: Be either an incoming first-generation college student or parents/guardians working in agriculture, with intent to enroll full-time in a two / four year / or vocational U.S. accredited institution in the fall of the upcoming academic year. 
Please note: Applicants are only able to submit one scholarship application entry and are not able to submit an application for both scholarships. 

When does the application close?
The application deadline is February 20th at 4:00 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST), with no exceptions. A complete application must include the application form itself submitted online and all required supplemental materials, including a letter of recommendation with a signature and a copy of school transcripts (official or unofficial, based on individual circumstances). For more information, please consult the application guidance. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Do I need to submit answers to the questions on the first page of the application using Google Docs?
No. Please refer to page one of the online application. These questions are integrated into the application itself. The provided Google document is intended for you to review the essay prompts prior to submitting the application. Once the application process is initiated, it cannot be saved mid-progress and, therefore, must be completed in a single session.​

Is there a minimum word count on the essay questions?
Yes - Please refer to the essay question as the minimum word count is bolded and underlined, carefully read it, and fulfill all the minimum requirements. 

Can I provide an answer to an essay question in Spanish?
Absolutely! You are welcome to respond using your language preference. 

Can I submit more than one letter of recommendation?
If more than one letter is received, only one letter will be chosen randomly to be reviewed. When submitting a letter of recommendation, please note that this will be submitted within the application as an attachment. Please ensure that the attached file is labeled the following: (First Name: Legal, Last Name, High School and High School ID Number).

Do high school transcripts need to be official? 
For the high school transcripts, they can be either official or unofficial. College transcripts are okay to be unofficial. The transcript must include the first semester, quarter, or trimester of the current academic year. Please note that this will be submitted within the application as an attachment. 
Please note: The high school transcripts must be submitted in a PDF format. This also applies to college transcripts.

Where do I submit official high school transcripts, unofficial college transcripts, and/or letters of recommendation? 
When submitting these documents, please note that they will be submitted within the application as an attachment. please ensure that the attached the attached files are labeled as the following: Legal First and Last Name, High School, and High School ID.

I'm planning to attend a trade school. Do you know if I still qualify for this scholarship?
Yes, you're eligible as long as the trade or vocational school is accredited.

​Will I be notified if my application and materials were received? 
This scholarship is composed of volunteers. However, we try to respond promptly when we receive questions and notifications. Due to the high volume of emails we receive as we near the closing date, we can only reply to some emails. 

When will I be notified if I will receive this scholarship? 
Our Scholarship Committee reviews scholarship applications in April. Chosen candidates will be notified sometime in mid-April by the email address provided on the application or by phone call utilizing a private number.
